Hot Trends For Antiques
Antique enthusiasts are navigating a dynamic market with several notable trends. Chinoiserie, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese and East Asian aesthetics, remains a perennial favorite, especially in the realm of decorative arts. Its opulent style, characterized by gilt mirrors, lacquered screens, and porcelain, continues to attract collectors seeking elegance and historical allure.
Another burgeoning trend is upcycling, where old and neglected pieces are restored to their former glory, offering both affordability and uniqueness. Mid-Century Modern furniture, known for its clean lines and organic shapes, remains highly sought after, with iconic pieces from the 1950s retaining their timeless appeal.

Art Spotlight: Frank Brooks
Evoking Nature’s Tranquility Through Brush and Hue
Frank Brooks, born in Salisbury in 1854, was the son of the artist Henry Brooks. He exhibited his artwork at prestigious institutions including the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers. Several of his noteworthy pieces are housed in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery and Bristol Art Gallery.
Originating from the serene countryside of Wiltshire near Salisbury, his birthplace could have only fostered his innate talent. Flowing through picturesque landscapes adorned with charming villages straight out of a postcard, the River Wylye, a chalk stream of the Salisbury Plain, captivates fly fishermen with its pristine waters reminiscent of champagne. This region has long served as inspiration, even to the Druids associated with the famed Stonehenge monument.
We can characterize Frank Brooks’ landscape work as a harmonious blend of realism and romanticism. His landscapes could be described as serene yet evocative, capturing the subtle interplay of light and shadow. His ability to convey the atmosphere of a place suggest a deep reverence for the natural world.
