Description

Offered for sale is a fine Meiji period Japanese okimono depicting a farmer. Made of antique ivory, the farmer carries over the shoulder a bag connected to a branch and flower plant. The quality of this carving is remarkable for its detail and realism.

Weight: 400g. It is in excellent condition and feels great in your hands. Like many of antique ivory sculptures, it offers a tactile experience. Good height at 7 inch tall, and signed on the underside by the artist. It has a hairline crack on the bottom of the base. Such hairline cracks are expected with antique ivory. In most cases, cracks are actually indicative of the age of the ivory.

Note: This is a unique, hand-carved item. Please look at all photos closely to evaluate its condition as this is the exact item you will receive.

Ivory carving is an art form that has been practiced in Japan since ancient times. Ivory carvers exhibit great skill and patience to create these intricate sculptures. Okimono is a Japanese carving, similar to, but larger than a netsuke. An elegant display piece and it will make a statement in any room. We may have other antique japanese okimonos for sale.
