Description

A beautiful and delicate late 19th century Japanese ivory okimono, depicting a farmer with basket and tools, along with 2 children and 2 very cute pumpkins.

Weight: 300g. It feels great in your hands and like many of antique ivory statues, it offers a tactile experience. Good height at 6.1 inch tall.

Considering its age, this Japanese ivory okimono is in great condition. The base has a crack that affect the integrity of the scuplture. There are traces of old glue on the face of one of the children, as well as one of the tools. A hairline crack at the back of the farmer's skirt. Such hairline cracks are expected with antique ivory. In most cases, cracks are actually indicative of the age of the ivory. Feel free to evaluate its condition from the detailed photographs. If you have any questions about its condition, or would you like to review higher resolution photographs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Note: This is a unique, hand-carved item. Please look at all photos closely to evaluate its condition as this is the exact item you will receive.

Ivory carving is an art form that has been practiced in Japan since ancient times. Ivory carvers exhibit great skill and patience to create these intricate sculptures. Okimono is a Japanese carving, similar to, but larger than a netsuke. An elegant display piece and it will make a statement in any room. If interested, we may have other antique Japanese okimonos for sale.
