Description

Offered for sale today is an antique album of views from Bucharest, capital city of Romania. Inside this small accordion fold view book are 11 interesting images of famous places and sights. The images are sepia colored and are probably prints. This album would have been made at the beginning of the 20th century.

The album was published by Socec & Comp. S.A. Bucuresti. The publishing house "Socec & Co.", founded and developed by Ioan V. Socec, was one of the first large publishing houses in Romania, considered by historians to be the most important enterprise of the Romanian book industry, starting from the 1870s, until the end the interwar period. The Socec bookstore and publishing house was dissolved in 1948.

Measures 4 3/8" x 3 5/8"

The 3rd photograph on the left is the Grand Hotel Lafayette on Calea Victoriei. From unknownbucharest.com: "Built in 1881, once stood at the crossroads between Lipscani street and Calea Victoriei, next to the Savings Bank Palace. The building was representative for the time when Bucharest was known as the “Little Paris of the Balkans”. Badly damaged and demolished following the earthquake in 1977. "

Please evaluate the album's condition from the detailed scans and photographs. If you have any questions about its condition, or would you like to review higher resolution photographs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
