Description

Just in time for fossils collectors. Offered today for sale is a scarce, large, and gorgeous pyritized ammonite from the time dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

Pyritized ammonites are formed when, during the petrification process, the ammonite's organic material is replaced by pyrite, or iron disulfide, more commonly referred to as fool's gold. What is the petrification process you ask? The process of petrification occurs when the organic matter is completely replaced with minerals, resulting in the fossil becoming stone as a result.

Dimensions: 3 inches and 3/4, 1.5 inches thick, with a whopping 550g in weight.

The stand used in the photographs is not included. Should you hold an interest in pyrite, our marketplace boasts an assortment of multiple listings for your perusal.
