Description

Calling collectors of Art Nouveau and decorative arts! Available today for immediate purchase is a gorgeous Art Noveau desk stand, complete with a letter rack, two ink pots and a pen trough. The ink pots have glass lining with one of them that seems to be melted at the top rim - maybe a candle got too close?

This antique brass desk stand is in great condition, considering it is over 100 years old. A great decorative piece that would fit perfectly in any home or business office.

Art Nouveau was a decorative arts movement that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was known for its flowing, organic designs and motifs inspired by nature. Desk stands, also known as inkwells, were a popular accessory during this period, and were often designed with Art Nouveau motifs. You can see these exemplary motifs in the enclosed high-rez photographs.

Typically made of silver, bronze, or brass, they featured curvaceous, flowing lines and naturalistic forms such as flowers, leaves, and vines. Art Nouveau desk stands were often considered luxury items, and were frequently produced by well-known manufacturers such as Tiffany & Co. and Gorham Manufacturing Company. They were popular among wealthy and stylish individuals who appreciated the organic forms and intricate details of the Art Nouveau style.
