Description

A rare and great example of early tin litho toys from Germany, labeled with the company name J.L. Mapke Hess Germany, including a logo as seen in the photographs. The Hess Company operated in Nuremburg, Germany between 1906 and 1930.

The toy is in good condition, considering its ~100 years age. Small paint chips and dings. It still has the driver. The 3 wheels are made of tin as well and turning very easy. Today, J.L. Hess toys are highly sought after by collectors, and examples can be found in toy museums and private collections around the world. A great and highly collectible for antique toy collectors.

Dimensions: 29.5cm long, 8cm tall (including the driver), and almost 7cm wide.

The Smithsonian National Museum of History has an example of toy from this company - a toy motor.
