Description

If you're a fan of antique netsukes, you won't want to miss this one. It's a masterfully crafted piece that truly showcases the craftsmanship of its creator. It's a 19th century netsuke of a Gama Sennin riding a toad. It's in great condition at 3.5cm tall.

In netsuke carving, "Gama Sennin" refers to a popular subject matter or motif depicting a mythical figure from Japanese folklore known as "Gama Sennin" or "Jurojin."

Gama Sennin is typically depicted as an elderly man with a long beard, wearing a hat and a robe, and carrying a staff. He is often accompanied by a toad or riding on a toad. Gama Sennin is considered one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology and is associated with longevity, wisdom, and immortality.

Netsuke carvers often used Gama Sennin as a subject matter due to his popularity in Japanese folklore and his association with good luck and prosperity.

Note: This is a unique, hand-carved item. Please look at all photos closely to evaluate its condition as this is the exact item you will receive.
