Description

Embrace the timeless charm of the 19th century with this captivating oil on canvas artwork. Although it remains untitled and unsigned, its visual narrative comes to life through the skilled brushwork, showcasing a graceful lute player. The absence of a formal signature only adds to the intrigue, leaving room for the viewer's interpretation and appreciation of the artist's talent. This unique piece captures a moment of musical serenity, making it a distinctive addition to any art collection or space. Painted during mid 1980s, most likely in United States in the European style. Our evaluation is based on the fasteners employed on the frame, which bear the imprint of William Cutts dated September 21, 1886. You can verify this information by referencing the patent documentation accessible at this link: https://patents.google.com/patent/US349631. You can observe these fasteners utilized in this artwork through the included photographs - see photograph 3 and 4.

Dimensions: Painting in frame is 9.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches wide. Frame is 21.5 inches tall and 18.5 inches wide. Frame is 4 inches deep - please see the last photograph to visualize its depth.

The painting is in great condition considering its age, with a few hairline scratches. The frame is also in great condition with hairline cracks in its plaster and a few small pieces missing. Solid and heavy, and displays very well.

Nineteenth-century frames epitomize opulence, showcasing the lustrous allure of gold and intricate design. This particular piece adheres to this tradition, encasing the oil on canvas securely within a 19th-century frame adorned with authentic metal fasteners, all enveloped by a substantial wooden structure.

We would approximate the value of the frame alone to be around $200 - $300, considering its originality to the painting and its excellent state of preservation.

Although the painting lacks a visible signature, it does bear two labels on the back, both of which are from the same period and appear to be written by the same hand. This could potentially serve as the artist's signature. A high resolution photograph has been provided with the 2 labels - see photograph 5.

At a first glance, the labels contain the letters "Leurs Pluood," a name we have been unable to match to any known artist. This intriguing mystery shall be passed on to the painting's next custodian, who may uncover the identity of this enigmatic creator. Should you furnish us with additional details regarding the signatures, we'll gladly present you with a vintage toy as a token of our appreciation.

We've included high-resolution photographs of both the painting's front and back, allowing for a thorough assessment of both its state of preservation and artistic qualities. If you'd like to evaluate them at even higher resolution, please contact us.
