About Constantine I

Constantine I reigned from 307 to 337 AD. Constantine, commonly referred to as "Constantine the Great, a prominent Roman emperor, ascended to power after the death of his father, Constantius Chlorus, in the year 306 while campaigning against Scottish tribes. He achieved a significant victory in the pivotal Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312, defeating the rival emperor Maxentius.

Constantine's legacy includes several monumental contributions to history, most notably the city named after him, Constantinople. While it has since been renamed Istanbul, this city served as the seat of power for Byzantine emperors for over a millennium. Constantine is also renowned for being the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity and for his role in establishing the foundations of what would evolve into the Vatican and the Papal dynasty.

In the latter part of his life, Constantine's dedication to Christianity intensified, coinciding with increased repression against traditional paganism. He left a complex legacy, including several sons who, after his death, engaged in power struggles and undermined much of the stability that Constantine had worked diligently to establish.
