Description

A remarkable piece of historical craftsmanship that combines the beauty of brass and the functionality of copper. Featuring a hand-hammered copper bottom, this canister, typically cylindrical in shape with brass accents and a lid, would have been used for a variety of purposes in the 19th century. One of its primary uses would have been for the storage of dry goods, such as flour, sugar, coffee, tea, or other pantry staples. The copper body of the canister was excellent for keeping these items safe from moisture and pests, while the brass mountings added an elegant touch.

Copper has excellent thermal conductivity, so it was also commonly used for storing ice or other perishables in a pre-refrigeration era. The canister's insulating properties would have helped maintain a cooler temperature, preserving the freshness of its contents.

Moreover, these canisters often served as a decorative element in Victorian-era kitchens. The brass mounts, with their ornate details, would have been particularly appealing to the 19th-century sensibilities, adding a touch of sophistication to the kitchen decor.

In excellent condition at 13.5 inches tall, and with its rich history and distinctive aesthetic, it's a conversation piece that not only exudes character but also serves as a tangible link to the past, making it a must-have for anyone seeking to infuse their space with a touch of nostalgia and timeless elegance.
