About Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG)

Patterned glassware known as Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) was crafted and produced in the United States and Canada between the 1860s and 1915. This glassware was known for its intricate patterns and designs, and it became popular during a period when new manufacturing techniques allowed for more affordable production, making it accessible to a wider range of households. The EAPG era represents a notable chapter in the history of glass production and design.

EAPG was not limited to just traditional glassware. It included a wide variety of items such as plates, bowls, pitchers, tumblers, butter dishes, and more. The patterns were applied to numerous types of glass pieces.

Some of the popular patterns in EAPG include "Pressed Loop," "Sunburst," "Hobnail," "Cane and Star," and "Daisy and Button," among many others. Each pattern had its own unique charm. Hobnail glass, characterized by raised, rounded bumps on the surface, was a popular design in EAPG. This style later became associated with other glassware, including milk glass produced by companies like Fenton.

The popularity of EAPG declined in the early 20th century as new glassmaking techniques and styles emerged.
