Have you wonder why Van Briggle pottery often commands higher prices when compared to Roseville, Hull, or other vintage or antique pottery made in USA? While Van Briggle pottery is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and unique Art Nouveau designs, the intricate detailing, graceful forms, and innovative glazes contribute to its allure and value. Van Briggle pottery was also produced in smaller quantities compared to other manufacturers, which increases its desirability among collectors and drives up prices.

Van Briggle pottery holds historical significance as one of the leading American art pottery manufacturers of the Arts and Crafts movement. Its association with notable artists such as Artus Van Briggle and Anne Van Briggle adds to its prestige and collectibility. Lastly, Van Briggle pottery has a dedicated base of collectors who appreciate its artistic merit, historical importance, and rarity. The strong demand from collectors, both seasoned enthusiasts and new admirers, drives up prices in the market.

About Van Briggle Pottery

  • Van Briggle Pottery was founded by Artus Van Briggle and his wife, Anne Gregory Van Briggle, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1901. Artus Van Briggle was a talented artist and sculptor who had previously worked for Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • Van Briggle Pottery is known for its distinct Art Nouveau style, characterized by flowing lines, organic forms, and nature-inspired motifs. Artus Van Briggle's background in sculpture greatly influenced the artistic direction of the pottery.
  • One of the hallmarks of Van Briggle Pottery is its innovative glazes. The pottery achieved fame for its matte glazes in soft, muted colors, as well as its lustrous crystalline glazes that resemble the surface of a gemstone.
  • Over the years, Van Briggle Pottery collaborated with various artists and designers, including Anne Van Briggle, who continued the pottery's artistic legacy after Artus Van Briggle's untimely death in 1904. Notable designers such as Laura Ann Fry and Ambrose Schlegel also contributed to the pottery's success.
