Description

Step into the stylish 1930s with this charming Anchor Hocking Block Optic Green Uranium Candy Dish. It is small in size so it might be a powder dish rather than a candy dish. Regardless, it's a delightful piece of history that glows with a unique green hue thanks to its uranium content. Perfect for adding a touch of vintage charm to your home, this glass piece is a conversation starter and a nostalgic nod to the past. Features a delightful green satin glass that's as pleasing to the touch as it is to the eye.

The Block Optic pattern, featured on this lidded dish, is one of Anchor Hocking's classic designs. This pattern is characterized by its geometric, block-like design and was produced during the Great Depression era. It is especially cherished by collectors for its distinctive look and the historical context it represents.

Anchor Hocking produced a variety of green glassware in the early to mid-20th century, not just uranium glass. The green color was a marketing favorite and became a collector's item. However, not all green glassware produced by Anchor Hocking contains uranium.

It's in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. There is some minor paint loss. Its art deco-inspired Block Optic pattern adds a touch of vintage flair. Elegant and perfectly sized for display on any surface. Approximate dimensions: 3.75 inches wide, 4.5 inches tall.

About Anchor Hocking

Anchor Hocking is a well-known American glassware company with a rich history that dates back to 1905. Founded in Lancaster, Ohio, by Isaac J. Collins and six partners, the company originally started as the Hocking Glass Company, named after the Hocking River in Ohio. Anchor Hocking's initial funding came from a $17,000 loan secured by founder Isaac J. Collins. This modest beginning laid the foundation for what would become one of America's most recognized glassware companies.

In 1937, following a merger with the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation, the company became known as Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation. During the Great Depression, Anchor Hocking not only survived but thrived by producing affordable glassware. Their innovative designs, like the Block Optic pattern, were a hit during economically challenging times.

Anchor Hocking is celebrated for its wide range of glass products, including bakeware, drinkware, serveware, and storage containers. The company gained prominence for its innovative glassmaking techniques and durable, high-quality products. One of their most iconic creations is the Fire-King line, introduced in the 1940s, which includes a variety of heat-resistant glass bakeware and dishes that remain popular among collectors today. It was originally introduced as a line of low-cost, heat-resistant oven glassware in the 1940s. It became especially popular in the 1950s and 1960s, often given away as promotional items by gas stations and supermarkets.

During World War II, Anchor Hocking played a significant role in supporting the war effort. They manufactured glassware for military use, including glass medical supplies, and even produced parts for radios and bombsights.
