Description

Offered for sale today are 2 elegant and rare Art Deco porringer bowls featuring dual handles. Crafted in Paris by the renowned French silversmith, these bowls embody the refined style and craftsmanship of early 20th-century Art Deco design.

Eugene Potfer was a renowned French silversmith based in Paris, known for his high-quality Art Deco silver plate pieces, including cocktail shakers and other items. His works are recognized for their elegant and modernist designs, reflecting the Art Deco style of the early 20th century. Potfer's pieces, such as the silver-plated cocktail shaker, are marked with his maker's mark and have gained attention for their craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal

There are two sizes, marked on the bottom of each bowl along with the Potfer marks: one is 15 cm in diameter, and the other is 12 cm. These bowls were used in Parisian bistros and cafes during the early 20th century. They are inscribed on the sides with the words: Aux Trois Obus, which is most likely the restaurant, bistro, or cafe that used them at the turn of the century or earlier. Amazing isn't it? You can own an antique item that crosses over in a few areas of collectibility: for Art Deco collectors, restaurant ware, items tied to Parisian culture and history, and vintage kitchenware.

Interestingly, there is a restaurant today called Aux Trois Obus, which may very well be where these bowls were used 100 years ago. This connection adds a fascinating layer to their history and significance. For more information about the restaurant, you can visit their website here.

While the bowls  are beautifully decorative in their own right with their Art Deco design, they could also serve a practical purpose as catchalls for everyday items. They are both in excellent condition with a very nice patina. The larger one is heavy at 500 grams. 2 inches and a quarter tall. The smaller one weighs 350 grams. 2 inches tall.

Imagine showcasing these exquisite bowls, each over a century old, on your shelves. Their rich history adds a unique charm to your space, sparking conversations about their origin and the elegant Art Deco style they represent.
